I am married with two children, now young adults and making their own way in the world. I love my work, 5 rhythms dancing, and every now and again I come back to my creative work, whether it be painting, drawing, felt making or stained glass.

In my 25-year teaching career, I always felt I was ‘wearing the wrong pair of shoes’.
It took me 5 years to leave teaching, gradually reducing my hours until I finally took the plunge and left in order to train as a Reflexologist. I trained and qualified with the Northern School of Reflexology in 2006. Reflexology wasn’t my first choice when I was scouting around for some kind of healing practice. However, little did I know that a whole new world was about to open up before me and over the coming years, I was to discover that Reflexology can benefit not just the whole body, but also deal with emotional and spiritual issues as well. The exploration of my subject gradually lead me down the pathway of working with the meridians with a fascination for energy-related techniques.

I love being a reflexologist because I am constantly learning and developing as a therapist.

Everybody’s needs are different and the challenges that some clients bring often offers some new insight and realisations which propel me along new lines of thought. This is immeasurably satisfying and at times, exciting. I experiment and explore different approaches in order to meet the needs of the people who come to me for help. My knowledge base has always grown organically using this approach.
I learned to work with Reiki through various teachers, as the technique seemed to heighten the effects of my reflexology work. I now offer Reiki as a stand-alone therapy but more often than not I will use it to a lesser or greater extent within reflexology sessions, depending on the needs of the client.

Over the years I have gradually come to the conclusion that the reflexes of the feet stimulate the energy pathways of the body and it seems to me that this is the main reason for the effectiveness of reflexology. I work with the meridians, slowly developing my own form of acupressure from the knees down.

I offer Reflexology Lymph drainage, as taught by Sally Kay, Hot Stone Reflexology, as taught by Sue Ricks, plus hormonal balance work and much more – but all revolving around the central nucleus of my reflexology practice.

My proudest moment came when I took on a client with Plantar Fasciitis.
I was lucky enough that the client was willing to stay with me for weekly treatments over a long period of time. I stated at the beginning that I couldn’t promise a result, but I would try my best. I took her on because my niece was an acupuncturist and she said she regularly had success with her clients who had this same problem.

I reasoned that if Acupuncture could make a difference, then in theory, so could I, by working along the meridians using reflexology.

A tenuous link perhaps and I was full of trepidation of the enormity of what I had taken on, I had no idea if I could make a difference or not and felt that the odds were stacked against me. I knew that Plantar Fasciitis usually lasted at least a year and was notoriously difficult to treat. So, in the early stages of treatment, I was having kittens and prayed regularly for some positive response.
It was not until the end of the 5th session that my client started to feel any benefit. The positive response, however, came in fits and starts. We seemed to be making real progress some weeks with an easing of the symptoms. Then one step forward was often followed by two steps backwards and she would have a really bad week again.
This fluctuation continued over the weeks but by the time we got to the twelfth week, the positive responses were increasing. We still had our setbacks for quite a while but it became clear at this stage that the symptoms had definitely become much easier on the whole. Eventually, after 20 weeks or so, she became pain-free and the symptoms never returned. Some would say that the problem may have eased on its own accord in the time it took to complete these sessions. However, I know that many people who have this issue, very often have it far longer and the lady herself thought the reflexology had a great deal to do with her recovery.

That indeed was my proudest moment.

I love that reflexology is, at heart, such a simple process.

It is not absolutely necessary to know anything about the person you are treating, or their issues and problems.Fundamentally, what a reflexologist has to do, is find the sore spot and work it in some way in order to bring about a positive response in the body.

I never cease to find this therapy amazing.
